Concept relief render of a campus with two lakes

Two lakes. 300 buildings. One ZIP code.

46556 is a one-person studio designing wall-hung relief maps of a single Indiana campus — measured from public LiDAR and map data (a handful of heights estimated from documented floor counts), and made to order in small batches by our manufacturing partner. Four versions are in development. We are deciding what to make first, and refundable reservations are the vote.

The four offers

Everything below is in development. These are concept renders built on the real measured dataset — same footprints, same heights; roof shapes are stylized from the measured roof and peak heights — and the finished pieces bring that measured geometry into physical space — precision-cut Baltic birch plies, true shadow relief, and the natural grain of hardwood. Unique reservations decide: the offer that meets its registered validation threshold first goes into batch production.

Full-campus relief render
THE FLAGSHIP

46556 — The Full Board

$2,000

The whole frame: a 1.33-metre wall board at 1:1500, built as layered birch — CNC-cut sheets, stacked and assembled in a single birch tone, with both lakes inlaid in the same birch and the best-known buildings as individual ivory pieces. Walnut shadow frame.

  • Batch one is ten boards, made to order
  • Reservation: $200, fully refundable

Campus render with buildings shaded by height band
LAYERED WOOD

46556 STRATA

$249

The framed campus as eight laser-cut layers of Baltic birch. Height is built into the stack — four height bands taken from the measured data, so the skyline steps up where the real one does. Optional: a small brass pin set into your hall.

  • 610 × 610 mm, shadow frame, hangs on a cleat
  • Reservation: $25, fully refundable

Close relief render of the historic campus core and lakes
BUILD IT OVER TIME

46556 Districts — Starter

$119

The campus in six framed relief tiles, one district at a time. Start with the corner you lived in; add the rest across birthdays and holidays. The starter tile includes the hanging template and cleat hardware.

  • Further districts $99 · all six as a set, $495
  • Reservation: $25, fully refundable

Reservations are not yet open.

Full-campus relief render at small scale
ONE PIECE

46556·500

$349

The complete frame at jewel scale: one relief panel, 500 mm square, every building proportioned from public LiDAR elevation data and documented floor counts, both lakes catching the light. Nothing to assemble — it arrives framed and hangs anywhere a picture hangs.

  • About 4 kg, ships in a single parcel box
  • Reservation: $25, fully refundable

Reservations are not yet open.

How reservations work

1 · Reserve

Place a refundable reservation on the offer you want to exist. It is a place in line and a vote — not a purchase, and no ship date is promised.

2 · We decide in the open

Reservations remain open for a published two-week decision window once the batch opens. Within 48 hours of close, verified unique-buyer counts are published in the open, and production proceeds according to our pre-registered demand thresholds.

3 · Refund, automatically

Change your mind any time before your batch locks and the reservation refunds in full. If an offer does not go ahead, its reservations refund automatically within 30 days of the decision — no action needed from you.

Not ready to reserve?

Leave an email and we will send the launch notice and the published results. Emails are counted as interest, not votes — only reservations decide.

Questions

What exactly is in the frame?

The central two kilometres of campus: 300 buildings — the historic core, the quads, both lakes, the stadium district, and the arts and athletics row south of the stadium — built from public LiDAR and map data, with footprints checked building by building. A strip of service buildings and golf facilities north of the lakes sits outside the frame.

When do I pay the rest?

Only if your offer goes ahead, and only when its batch locks — we will ask first, and your reservation stays refundable until you confirm. If an offer converts to orders, a delivery timeframe is stated at that point.

Is this affiliated with the university?

No. 46556 is an independent studio project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any university. The number is simply the campus ZIP code — if you know, you know.

Where does the data come from?

Public sources: LiDAR elevation data (IndianaMap / USGS 3DEP) for terrain and building heights, and OpenStreetMap for footprints and paths. Footprints are cross-checked building by building; most heights are measured from the LiDAR. Where the survey predates a building, its height is estimated from its documented floor count, and a few small structures are still being pinned down.
